Underground Town in South Australia...
Underground Town in South Australia..!!!
Coober Pedy is also known as the world’s opal capital with 30% global opals mined here. As for the town name, it is translated as “whitemans hole” from the Aboriginal term kupa-piti.
The severe desert climate made a lot of residents move to live underground, in caves. A cave home usually has three bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom and lounge that are excavated out of the rock in the hillsides. Such homes don’t require air-conditioning, because they remain at a constant temperature while summer temperatures on the surface can reach 40-50 degrees Celsius (over 100 degrees Fahrenheit).
Coober Pedy attracts tourists from all over the world. The mines, underground churches and graveyard are the most interesting attractions here. The trees you can find in this town are iron welded. You can play golf at night only to avoid hot temperatures. The local golf is free of grass that is why players take a small piece of tee-off turf with them.
Coober Pedy is featured in many movies, including Opal Dream, Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, Red Planet and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. NASA is planning to train astronauts for a planned mission to Mars here in 2012.

Camelot – A Replica of Bear Grylls’ Famous Camel Carcass
If you’re a fan of Discovery Channel, you know about Bear Grylls’ crazy adventures from “Man vs. Wild”, and particularly about the famous camel carcass he used to protect himself in the Sahara Desert.
In an original advertising move to promote the new season of “Man vs. Wild”, Discovery Channel placed a replica of the camel carcass in Sydney’s Wynyard Park and put it up for rent, on a popular website.
Passers-by had the chance to crawl inside the carcass, dubbed Camelot, to see how Bear felt during his survival test in Sahara, and also fill in a form telling Discovery why they would be the best tenant for this unusual property, for the chance to win a holiday voucher worth $2,500.

Sydney Harbour Bridge - Big Food Festival...
That’s how 6 thousand Australians started their Sunday morning. The bridge was closed to traffic and was covered with the freshly laid grass for families to enjoy their picnic as part of a food festival. 190,000 people wanted to participate in this event
100 metres above the sparkling blue water on the Harbour Bridge. Gone were the eight lanes of traffic; in their place, a carpet of newly laid lush grass was dotted with tartan picnic rugs, food hampers and the odd cow.
Tens of thousands of people had registered for the ballot for the al fresco occasion, but only 6,000 were lucky enough to be chosen. Picnickers feasted on fresh croissants and platters of fruit, taking in the sound of honky-tonk piano and soaking up the views of the Opera House. “It’s amazing to see the bridge in this perspective,” resident Don Fuchs said . “Usually you sit in the car, you cross it, and that’s it.”
